A Tribute in Balloons
Luna, our friends’ feisty Boston Terrier, passed away unexpectedly last week.
Today was her (human) dad’s birthday. There was already a party planned. Rather than cancel, they changed the invitation. They made it a wake.
The house filled up with people who love her, who felt the absence of her. There were balloons, meant for the birthday, filled with helium. Our friends did the most beautiful thing.
They gave us each a balloon and led us outside. After a few words, all at once, we let them go, to Luna. As they floated up they grew smaller. First they were balloons, then brightly colored dots, then tiny black dots, and then nothing. So far away we couldn’t see them anymore.
The entire time they were disappearing from view, they stayed in a cluster, together.
